BMW Cooling System Maintenance
Making sure your BMW’s cooling system is working correctly is extremely important because it affects how your engine performs. If working correctly the cooling system will prevent your BMW from overheating and regulate temperature over a long period of time. Sometimes leaks may occur or a part is broken and the integrity of the system will be compromised. Routine inspection is necessary to make sure there are no issues and that your engine is still running optimally. Keeping up with preventative maintenance will ensure the longevity of your BMW’s engine and save you from costly repairs.
In addition to making sure all of the cooling components are functioning properly, keeping up with regular fluid flushes will help maintain the longevity of these parts. Below is a list of items that should be checked during each inspection:
The BMW radiator receives lots of ware and has the tendency of cracking. Having this checked by a professional is a must!
Many problems we’ve encountered from the coolant system start with the water pump belt. If this belt is broken the water pump will not work and needs to be replaced. Bearings inside the waterpump can also become an issue.
Other parts such as belts, hoses, thermostat and fan should also be checked and replaced when needed. Hoses should be checked for leaks regularly! If there is a problem with the thermostat it should be replaced immediately!
If any of these issues are overlooked for a long period of time it may result in a blown head gasket or damaged cylinder heads. Needless to say these are expensive repairs that can be prevented most of the time with regular inspection.
