Did you know that it an absolute myth that you have to return to the dealer for maintenance? If you own a new car, having an independent repair shop perform maintenance services for you will not void your warranty. 

Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act which is also enforced by the Fair Trade Commission (FTC), consumers are protected against the manufacturer voiding their new car warranty if a non dealer service facility performs maintenance services on their vehicle. This act protects consumers from having to go to the dealer for services such as tire changes, oil changes, fluids checks, belt replacements and brake services. It is illegal for dealers to void or deny warranty claims due to having service performed outside of the dealer network.
